About Us:
Make A Way Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation that is committed to building inclusive communities where connection inspires discovery, and ALL people can thrive. We are a bold and visionary team that aims to provide integrated social services to older adults facing ageism and/or age-related challenges in Alberta.
Prior to incorporation, our founders have blended social work when appropriate, urgent supports when needed, and coordinated a network of volunteers who provide the depth of care and connections that create meaningful and effective change in seniors’ overall well-being and quality of life. What makes us so unique is that we effectively combine our social outreach with volunteer programming and community engagement. Not only do we assist in crisis situations, but we provide ongoing support to ensure seniors are supported appropriately, long term. We accomplish all of this through the hard work of our dedicated staff, including a team of registered social workers and volunteer coordinators, as well as the time and efforts of older volunteers (seniors).
Mission:
To improve the quality of life for ALL seniors, including ones with disabilities, and connecting them with their peers through social networking, capacity building workshops and community activities.
Approach:
Our philosophy of compassion, dignity, choice, commitment, and independence fuels our capabilities to provide the quality-of-care we execute. We support individuals in accessing community resources needed to enhance their lifestyles and mental health. At Make A Way Foundation, we believe every individual has the right to live, work, and participate in the community of their choice. Individuals, including seniors are entitled to a high quality of life supported by caring, nurturing people who help to enhance their potential in all they do. We encourage them to become involved in planning every aspect of their lives, and we believe that no decisions should be made “about us without us.”
